There was a time when you could probably check in the dictionary and under people pleaser you would have seen my name.
Arman will you lend me $5? I’ll pay you right back.
Arman will you help me move things from my apartment? Thanks!
Arman will you pick me up from the Airport? Thanks!
What did that turn into?
Arman, will you lend me $20? I’ll pay you back
Arman, will you help me buy furniture and assemble it in my house? Thanks!
Arman will you drop me off and pick me up from work? Thanks!
So how does this relate to blogging in the Healthy Living Community?
Well…how healthy are these behaviours? Maybe you can relate to one of these instances or maybe you’ve been victim to them.
When I first started blogging, I fell into this trap. The people pleasing trap. The blogger pleasing trap. I often felt myself having to explain myself for decisions regarding food choices, exercise workouts or using certain ingredients in my recipes.
I felt myself having to only post recipes on certain days because other bloggers did it. I felt the need to join link ups half heartedly.
Most disappointing- I often felt like ending my posts telling readers to let me know if they didn’t like my content or wanted it changed.
People Blogger Pleasing 101- Guilty.
Is it important to have content which engages your readers? Of course.
Is it important to avoid being offensive, rude, insulting or pose judgement on others within your blog? Of course.
However, you should never feel the need to change your writing voice, beliefs or self worth in order to please others. You should never be sorry for content you post nor should you have to change your post ideas just because it is trending.
Crossfit currently a popular topic on blog world and you’re not a fan? Don’t proclaim how you love it when you don’t or write a rainbows and butterfly post about how amazing it is. Admit it’s a trend you’re not keen on following and you’d prefer yoga, running or chopping kabocha.
Trying out a new diet plan but not sure if you agree with all the fine details of it? Change it up and make it suit you.
Organise a small blogger birthday surprise but cannot include every single blogger out there? You can’t cater for or have time to include every. single. blogger. out. there.
There have been many times where I’ve finished a post, about to hit publish, and consider writing an apology at the bottom.
I then step back and think of the self respect I truly deserve. Because I do deserve it.
And I’m not sorry for it.
