honey peanut butter.

We love making our own spreads at home.

If you’ve tried our almond butter or homemade Nutella, you’ll love this fun twist on peanut butter- Honey peanut butter!

Why you’ll love this recipe

  • Only 3 ingredients. This spread is made with only three ingredients: honey, peanut butter, and a dash of oil.
  • A few minutes to make. Blending roasted peanuts and honey into a deliciously creamy spread takes less than 10 minutes.
  • Healthy and delicious. Homemade spreads is certainly healthier than its store-bought counterparts as it doesn’t contain unwanted additives. And the best part is, you can control the flavor and texture of your spread, making it as sweet or as smooth as you like.

What I love about this homemade spread is just how affordable it is! Flavored peanut butter is super expensive but this one costs a fraction of the price!

Ingredients needed

As we have already mentioned, this recipe is made with only three ingredients. Here is what you’ll need:

  • Peanuts. Roasted and unsalted.
  • Honey. For the best recipe, use good quality honey like Manuka.
  • Safflower oil. You can use other neutral-flavored oil of your choice.

How to make honey roasted peanut butter

Start by adding the unsalted peanuts to a high-speed blender or a food processor. Blend until crumbly, regularly scraping down the sides with a wooden or silicone spatula.

Add the honey and blend until a thick and creamy mixture remains. Slowly add the canola oil while still blending. Add more canola oil if the mixture is still too thick. Transfer to a jar and enjoy.

Tips to make the best recipe

  • If you can’t find roasted peanuts, get raw unshelled peanuts and roast them yourself. Roasting peanuts takes 15 to 20 minutes. Lay the peanuts on a baking tray and roast them at 350F until they are lightly golden.
  • Adjust the texture of this spread to your preferences. You can blend it until smooth and creamy or your can leave it slightly chunky. You can also add some chopped peanuts for an extra crunchy texture!
  • Add a pinch of salt to bring out the natural sweetness.
  • Use a high-powered blender or food processor with ice-blending capabilities.  Otherwise, you will go through a lot of struggle trying to achieve the right consistency.
  • If you have a sweet tooth and honey just isn’t sweet enough for you, swap the honey in this recipe with maple syrup. Being sweeter than honey, maple syrup will also add some woody and caramel notes to the peanut butter.

Storage instructions

To store: Transfer the spread into an airtight container or jar and store it at room temperature for up to 4 weeks. Keep it somewhere cool and out of direct sunlight and heat sources.

To freeze: Place the spread in a glass jar and store it in the freezer for up to 6 months.

Frequently asked questions

Can dogs have honey peanut butter?

Peanut butter is one of the best treats to share with your dog. As for honey peanut butter, you can give it to your dog in moderation. Honey is safe for dogs but only in small amounts as it does contain a high amount of sugar.

Be careful with giving your dog store-bought honey peanut butter as it may contain xylitol. The latter is very toxic to dogs even in the smallest amount.

Can I swap out the honey?

If you are allergic to honey, don’t like its flavor, or don’t use it due to your diet restrictions, use agave syrup instead. Agave syrup is a 1:1 substitute for honey and provides very similar results.

Will the honey harden?

Both honey and peanut butter harden at cold temperatures. So, if you are storing your honey roasted peanut butter in the fridge, allow it to sit at room temperature for up to an hour before you use it.
