This single serve cookie dough dip is low in carbs and packed with protein, but you’d never be able to tell! Thick, creamy and perfectly portioned, it is a quick snack or dessert to enjoy anytime, with or without dippers! It’s also suitable for those following a vegan, gluten free, paleo, dairy free and sugar free lifestyle!
Chips and dip just got a sweet makeover and I ain’t complaining.
To be completely honest, I’d never even had a sweet dip before until my first time in America.
One of my college friends invited me to a ‘When I grow up’ party in one of the off-campus Fraternity houses. He told me everyone had to dress up as what they envisioned themselves to be working in post-college.
My group of friends and I went as….well, whatever random costumes we could find at Walmart. I’m pretty sure I bought some generic mask and put on a suit and voila- My lame attempt of a costume.
My friends had the same idea.
I think (read- I HOPE) that the true party theme was taken very lightly… unless 90% of the guys and girls wanted to be lingerie models and/or shirtless football players.
Change of subject- The food!
Amongst the typical party foods (hot dogs, chips, chips, a bowl of Spongebob lollipops and more chips) was this huge bowl of dip. I first assumed it was some kind of hummus which someone had accidentally dropped chocolate chips into. However, upon further inspection, I saw a pattern of apple slices, cookie sticks and sugar pretzel rods around it.
Besides, who would hummus with chocolate chips?
My friend told me that it wasn’t uncommon to have sweet dips at big parties, with peanut butter, honey yogurt, and oreo ones being the popular ones. Although it wasn’t my usual salsa or guacamole, I was game to try it and must say….Us Aussies had been missing out! The dip was thick, creamy and had a similar texture to a cupcake frosting. It was also studded with chocolate chips (NOT spiked) and had a hint of vanilla throughout.
While I would totally have (and did!) enjoy the dip on its own, I know not everyone is as lame as me. As such, you are in for a double delight today with a special dipper recipe to go with it!
Long term readers know I’m a huge fan of Flatout flatbreads, due to their versatility, taste and the fact that wraps can be stuffed to the brim without falling apart! I’ve been trying to ‘think outside the wrap’ with them and come up with some fun flavors, albeit still being healthy.
One of my favorite flavors is without a doubt the infamous ‘cinnamon roll’, so what better way than to make healthy baked cinnamon roll pita chips? I simply baked them with some cinnamon and granulated sweetener and once they were baked, made a simple coconut oil drizzle and allowed it to cool.
Cinnabon, eat your heart out.
- 1 Flatout Wrap of choice (I used the proteinUP and the original flatout varieties)
- 1 tsp Saigon cinnamon
- 1-2 T granulated sweetener of choice
- pinch sea salt
- Cooking spray of choice
- 2 T coconut butter
- 2 T milk of choice
- pinch cinnamon
- pinch lemon juice
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees fahrenheit. Spray a large baking tray/dish with cooking spray. Cut the Flatout wrap into squares and place on a single layer. Spray the squares lightly with more cooking spray and set aside.
- In a small bowl, mix the cinnamon, sweetener of choice and sea salt until combined. Sprinkle over the pita chips and bake for 8-10 minutes, or until crispy and golden on the edges.
- While the chips are cooking, make your glaze by whisking the coconut butter, milk of choice, cinnamon and lemon juice.
- Once the chips have cooled, drizzle with coconut butter frosting until firmed up and enjoy!
This healthy low carb cookie dough dip is smooth, thick and creamy and also specifically designed for one! Unlike traditional dessert style dips, this version contains no dairy, sugar, butter, cream or oil, but you’d never be able to tell! It is pretty customizable too- You can make it as thick as you want or if you prefer a thinner, creamier dip, that works well too. This dip has been tested to suit most dietary lifestyles out there- It can easily be gluten free, dairy free, sugar free, paleo and vegan- Just take note of the tested methods and options!
There are two key components here- Protein powder and
chocolate chips coconut flour.
Protein powder helps thicken your base of choice (Greek yogurt, non-dairy yogurt or coconut yogurt), as long as you use a non-whey protein powder. I tried it using my standbys- This vegan protein powder, this casein protein powder, and this paleo protein powder. I never recommend whey protein powder, especially in a recipe like this (or my oatmeal recipes)- I find that it makes it somewhat sticky and produces the opposite effect of thickening- Not cool!
The second component here is coconut flour– Although this one isn’t exactly necessary. If you are a fan of super thick dips, or one which is almost like a cake batter, you’ll NEED this addition. It’s because of the coconut flour that what you see pictured looks somewhat like mashed potatoes. If you aren’t a fan of coconut flour or don’t have any on hand, you can use gluten-free oat flour or even rolled oats. However, this will increase the carb count, if that is what you are on the watch for!
Okay, the REAL second component is chocolate chips– This isn’t necessary, but well…it kind of is.
So let’s sum this up.
Chips and dip get a makeover = Healthy low carb cookie dough dip for one + cinnamon roll baked pita chips.

- 1 8 oz (225 gram) serving of yogurt of choice (Greek, non-dairy or cultured/plain coconut)
- 1 scoop vanilla protein powder (32-34 grams)
- 1-2 T granulated sweetener of choice
- 1-2 T coconut flour (Can sub for oat flour or almond flour)*
- Milk of choice**
- Chocolate chips
- In a mixing bowl, add your yogurt of choice. Stir through your protein powder and sweetener of choice.
- Slowly add your coconut flour until desired texture is achieved. Top with chocolate chips and enjoy!
- * For a thicker dip, use 2 tablespoons
- ** For a thinner dip, use a tablespoon and add milk of choice until desired texture is achieved.
