5 minute cheese and garlic flatbread

And just like that, its Monday again! On Friday I had a set in stone routine to follow ensuring I hit the books like a good little student should. However, sticking to the plan did NOT happen…oops. Lets take a look at what contributed to that and start the week with a bang in celebrating what brought that smile to us! Thank you Katie, for being the ever gracious host.

QUICK QUESTION- This is a tad random, but as much as I enjoy health, food and fitness related posts by the blogs I follow, I also LOVE getting to know more about the blogger OUTSIDE of that. I love learning their quirks, travels, upbringing, thinks that make them unique and all around random facts. Unfortunately, these kind of posts only come around when the surveys float over the blog world or the odd post by a blogger. 

I know I’m not alone in this camp so I’ve been thinking this weekend of the idea for some sort of a weekly link up where we can have a post dedicated to just random facts or musings about ourselves- outside the health, food and fitness area. It could be a weekly set of random questions put forth by a blogger and then all link up in one space? Let me know your thoughts on this- completely fine if you think its a Twat idea!

Marvelous is- ONE. EXAM. LEFT. Okay, technically its two but the second one is on the 25th November and I’m not worried about it. This is what I plan to do after it (for maybe a week straight….)

Marvelous is- Nutella. No, I didn’t try out Becky’s recipe yet. Did you know that Nutella is an excellent energy burst during study? Neither did I when the jar was unopened. 3 exams later and 1/8 of a jar left, lets just say another grocery store visit is on the books to replace it. Danger in jar form.

Marvelous is- NOT buying a tofu press. Who needs one of those when you can make a home made one….just press it with a pizza stone, a blender and a saucepan. Actually, I used to use a hardcover textbook but I returned that early in the week after my exam. I’m glad I found SOME use for it 😉

Marvelous is- epic procrasti-experimentation (yes a new word = procrastinating with kitchen experimentation). Friends, I have FOUR new recipes to share- and they turned out really well! [lets ignore the minor detail that I should have been studying…..]

Marvelous is- Another flatbread craving hit! Last Friday it fulfilled a Cinnamon and raisin bread craving and yesterday, a cheese and garlic focaccia craving. Seriously Khushboo– you are a special K. (Just call me Tina Feyno don’t)

5 minute cheese and garlic flatbread

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup oat flour
  • 1 T coconut flour (can sub for another flour)
  • 1/4 cup shredded cheese of choice (I used cheddar)
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder (not salt)
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp mixed Italian herbs
  •  1/8-1/4 cup liquid of choice (I used Almond milk)
  • 1 T nutritional yeast (optional)
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, garlic powder and mixed herbs and stir until combined. Slowly mix through the shredded cheese and optional nutritional yeast.
  2. Add the milk in 1 Tablespoon at a time, until it becomes a thin batter like consistency.
  3. Heat a frying pan on very low heat and spray with oil. Pour batter once hot and cover for 2 minutes until edges are crispy then flip and allow to cook for an extra minute, or until golden brown. Serve immediately.

Note- Make sure the frying pan is oiled, or else the cheese will stick. I got some questions regarding if the coconut flour was necessary and the answer is no- however I find the addition of it gives it more of a bread like texture! If you choose to omit just decrease the amount of liquid you use!

Set 5 minutes away, turn your frying pan on and bake some bread! And with that, I hope you all have a great start to your week full of rainbows, butterflies and coffee. Lots of coffee.

  1. Oh man, we took your twerking to an all new level in Chicago this weekend! Haha – you would have been embarrassed to see our sad attempts (or maybe that’s just me that can’t do it…). I love the idea of a link up, I have an idea for a post that I’m going to try to get to this week or next to share a glimpse into my life!

    1. You guys need to seriously bring the party over the Australia….but then again I’m hoping to visit Chicago next year! Any twerking is better than no twerking! Can’t wait to see that post- Its great to get more insight into a blogger- especially when they aren’t afraid to be X rated on social media.

  2. Got to love the fun! I am so glad I am not in school any more! Way long past that! 😉 Such great recipes too!!! So, I love reading about people no matter if it is health, fitness or their life – I am game to read it all!

    1. It trumps the raisin and cinnamon variation…..I may have made it another 2 times. #noshame.

      Already preempting it, but once exam results have come out, we are having another blogger meet-up and burning the industrial relations textbook!

  3. TINA FEY, you’ve outdone yourself..and me :)! I’m loving these oat flatbread twists and this is another variation I need to try stat! I love the idea of a random link-up…it’s always nice to know more about the blogger beyond their eats and workout routines. I feel like that’s when there’s more of an opportunity for a blendship to form :)! Your twerking has motivated to get to the gym…I was having a lazy morning thanks to waking up at the ungodly hour of 5 am. I know it’s the norm with some bloggers but waking up that early is just crazy talk for me ;).

    Hope that the study is going well and there is plenty of jar cleaning (emptying?) going on, be it delicious nutella or any other nut butter. Consider it to be both body and brain food 🙂

    Love the tofu press, when things are in a pinch and you only have the basic necessities, you can still find a way to get food damn it! 😛

      ….Don’t even mention that nutella. Its been taken by the trash collectors. I’ve only come across one decent type of tofu which can be baked. Everything else is too sloppy!

  5. Oh my word! I know how you feel with the study- my last exam is November 18. After I will be sleeping just like you. I don’t have a blog but I love hear random facts about bloggers! The food is only interesting in context and with feeling behind it 🙂 except for Nutella, that is just always interesting! I have been enjoying the same study snack and it definitely disappears within a week often less… Oops. Also on the subject of extra interesting facts on bloggers, would you consider finding someone to do a he/she thinks on dating. Any aspect even what your date Orders at dinner thanks. 🙂 happy studying- ugh

  6. Nutella-fuelled twerking and studying? You got it down like a pro – and as I said: if that’s “eating for abs” I’m so down with it ;). In fact, I walked past a special offer on Nutella last week – some of those + 50g extra jars and totally had to think of you as you’d posted that picture on IG before. Tempting to buy one … but I’m already going through almond butter jars [my quick energy bursts along with chocolate] too quickly so I’m not sure I’d be wise keeping Nutella around there house.
    What else I’m SO in for? Your blogger randomness post [NON-twat] idea!! So glad you brought it up as I’ve actually been wishing other bloggers did that outside of surveys, too, and didn’t want to myself because I didn’t want to come across … vain? As I’m not good at talking about myself off the cuff [teach me how to ;)] I’d be up for the set of random questions. Make it happen!

  7. Four recipes?! Look at you! (ignoring the “should have been studying fact”) Also, nutella was my drunk weakness. I may or may not have polished off containers after nights out… anyways. I LOVE your idea about the link up! I definitely enjoy learning about other bloggers too. I’m going to be completely honest and say that lengthly surveys or lists of 20 facts make my eyes glaze over — there is only so much information I can absorb at one time! But maybe if each week has a theme and then we expand on that theme with 3-5 points… I dunno just an idea. ie: Where have you travelled to? Show us your 3 favorite places and what you loved about them. ie: What are your favorite books? TV shows? Etc… You could announce the theme/question on Monday or something. Just my two cents… obviously you will make it awesome either way 🙂

  9. Love the link-up idea! I’d totally participate in that. Yay…you’re almost done with exams! What a relief, I’m sure! Nutella is SO addicting that I don’t ever even buy it – I could seriously eat the entire jar myself in one sitting! Mmmm…love that flat bread! I made sweet potato soup last night for dinner, so I think I’ll be giving this a try today with the leftovers! 🙂

  10. Fact: some of my best essays in college were written either in the kitchen or on the treadmill. There’s just something about procrastinating in those two areas that kicks my creativity up a couple notches. And lookit you with your 4 recipes! Stop making me look bad — I’m hoping to experiment with ONE today 😛

    Oh, and thank you for giving me a huge craving for cheesy flatbread at 6:30 AM. I’m not normally a savoury breakfast kind of girl, but I could definitely go for one of those! Hmm… I wonder if I could toss some jam on it 😯

    1. Do you guys have Canada’s Got Talent or a similar reality TV show? You should enter and display essay/treadmill skills. I can barely read on a treadmill let alone write.

      Those 4 recipes came about after procrastinating….it was my only option 😉 You got me on the cottage cheese and jam so standard cheese and jam is a given!

    I think I missed the memo to get off plan – so many blends seemed to have had that in mind. My plan most weekends is to not make any plans – sometimes it works, sometimes 
    This garlic oat flat bread of yours sounds delish – I cannot wait to try an adapted version – sans cheese – lactose is so not my friend!

My blog isn’t very personal, really, but it would be nice to share some random facts every now and then….. like I used to have a problem listening to headphones in the gym because I’d randomly starting dancing (twerking? ha) without realising it!

    Nutella is definitely a solid study snack. The family I used to nanny for had a fully stocked Nutella collection, and when the kids weren’t looking, I’d take spoonfuls of it. And then the kids would see me, and demand some for themselves. Sugar high central.

    1. Australian marketers for Nutella would love you then- They have received so much love/hate from parents because their ploys include making it sound like a superfood ha.

      I used to freeze blobs of nutella as a kid as ‘mock chocolate’…this would result in jars being gone within 2 days.

    1. I never buy oat flour- its like $5 for a tiny bag here! I just get rolled oats, chuck it in my blender (no fancy schmancy vitamix with me- just a basic breville) and give it a good grind..ing. To your desired grind…ing consistency.
