Oh hi, expensive blog post.
You guys asked, so I delivered…with a lighter wallet.
If you’ve been around here for some time or have made a recipe from here, chances are you’ve noticed almond butter is one of my most used ingredients. It’s versatile, mild and works well in many recipes. The thing I love most about almond butter in my recipes is that is isn’t overpowering and doesn’t take over the final product. This is a big reason why I’ve slowly moved away from using strictly peanut butter- It’s very evident in recipes and kind of takes over.
Not that I mind.
However, many of you do.
I pick my battles.
ZING.
I have two standby’s for almond butter- I either make my own (simply ground almonds with a pinch of sea salt) or this affordable store bought one. It’s also the key base to one of my favorite recipes ever- this 3 Ingredient almond fudge.
I’m not sure what is in the air, but if it’s fudge, I wouldn’t be surprised. I have a few delicious (and easy!) fudge recipes to share with you guys in the coming weeks! Instead of bombarding you with them all in one go, I’m going to start with the easiest one, and one which will form a base for the upcoming versions!
Instead of standard almond butter, we’ll be going the chocolate almond butter route.
Almond butter, especially store bought FLAVORED almond butter is expensive. There is nothing worse than forking out close to $20 for a jar of almond butter, only to be left disappointed upon opening. As such, I’m going to share 4 store bought versions I can personally vouch for, along with my very favorite homemade version which, if you own a blender/food processor, I’d recommend.
For those with a blender/food processor….
This Chocolate Almond Butter Recipe was hands down, my favorite. It is naturally sweetened using maple syrup and was incredibly drippy- The perfect texture for fudge and candies. What I loved most about this recipe is that you can add more cocoa for a richer chocolate flavor (key for today’s recipe!), or more liquid for it to be extra smooth. Saying that, if you make it too drippy, it makes it very difficult to firm up.
The store bought varieties-
Marantha Dark Chocolate Almond Spread- This is my favorite packaged chocolate almond butter. It’s thick, creamy and perfectly sweetened. It works really well in this fudge (and other recipes) however, it isn’t suitable for those following a vegan or paleo lifestyle.
Barefoot & Chocolate- Dark Chocolate Almond Spread– This was totally an impulse buy! It had the texture of frosting and was mostly eaten with a spoon. It was very similar to the Marantha brand, although this one is vegan friendly!
Nuts N’ More Chocolate Almond Butter– In full disclosure here, this wasn’t very nice on it’s own. It had a chalky texture and was difficult to spread. Saying that, it worked well in this recipe, although it did come out quite gritty.
Wild Friends Chocolate Almond Butter– I really enjoyed this one, although it did have some almond pieces throughout (which I didn’t mind!).
How about we get fudged now with the recipe, huh?
This healthy 3 Ingredient chocolate almond fudge literally MELTS in your mouth and requires no baking or cooking to whip up- It’s smooth, creamy and tastes insanely decadent! It’s based off of three wholesome ingredients, and is perfect for a sweet snack, dessert or even gift giving! Unlike traditional fudge, this three ingredient chocolate almond fudge contains NO condensed milk, no dairy, no butter, no processed sugar and no flour or grains! It literally takes minutes to form the fudge batter and the hard part is waiting for it to firm! Because of the ingredients used, this fudge is naturally gluten free, vegan, paleo, refined sugar free and dairy free!
HACK! Are you impatient like I am? I hear you! Instead of letting this cool in the fridge, you can simply throw it in the freezer and cut the waiting time considerably. Saying that, you’ll need to allow the fudge to cool slightly at room temperature first. This is important to avoid freezer burns and icicles forming around it.
Make this healthy 3 Ingredient Chocolate Almond Fudge and let’s give ten snaps, two twirls and one fist bump for fudge.
Regardless, more to come.

More delicious recipes to get you fudge’d up? Gotcha covered!
The original which started the obsession…time to make a new batch!
The reason why I make my own homemade “Nutella”- This needs to happen!
Fudge INSIDE chocolate and with added texture? Kill me, softly.
Two ‘F’s in one line- Fruity Fudge.
Peanut butter AND chocolate lovers- This one is for you!

Asking me what my favorite nut butter is is like asking me what my favorite animal is, I have so many! Anyways, chocolate almond is always a great combo so this fudge needs to be made soon. I may or may not eat the whole batch 🙂
Wait, you like animals? I guess you do like me 😀
I love me some chocolate…but I’ve never tried making my own nut butter. I guess it’s just never crossed my mind. Speaking of nuts, the newsletter from Robbie’s school said we can’t bring in ANYTHING that involves ANY kind of nut. They said it’s for allergies. I mean I get it. Some kids are allergic to peanuts. But I tried to take some chocolate chip cookies with walnuts in them to his teachers to be nice…and they sent it back home with me! Guess that just means more nut fudge for me!
It’s SUCH a money saver- I used to waste so much money buying it! Good tip on the allergy front!!!
Yess with the sea salt on top! After a week without dessert, I got hit with a sweets craving yesterday, so these look delicious. If you could just send them to me so I can take them on my trip today, that would be great 😉
I would personally fedex them to you if possible…or take floo powder (this would make no sense if you don’t read Harry Potter)
These are gorgeous – nicely done! And obviously, they sound amazingly good too. 🙂
😀 Thanks so much, Mermaid!
My favorite nut butter is the one right in front of me, so right now, it’s crunchy salted almond butter. But I have about 8 other kinds nearby waiting to hop in.
I LOVE any nut butter which is salted- Good choice!
You’ll never hear me complaining that you’re moving away from the PB. You know my feelings on that pesky stuff. And I actually had to stop buying my favourite brand of AB because they hiked up the price to 26 DOLLARS A JAR. Like… excuse me? I don’t really care for the taste of that Kirland brand on it’s own, but it’s good in recipes!
twenty six BUCKS? WTF. You may as well suffer the PB outcome as it’s cheaper! 😀
The most I’ve paid is £9, and I thought that was stupid! It was some ridiculous snickerdoodle flavour or something and it was totally worth the money.
Oh geebuz, that is insane!
Almond butter is actually so bloody expensive that it’s devastating. I’ve been eating peanut butter by the spoonful because I haven’t gotten the chance to find a good almond butter that’s less than $12. Sad face.
But this fudge looks wonderful! I bet any nut butter will taste amazing with it!
Absolutely- Trader Joe’s flax and crunchy peanut butter is amazeballs!
i love almond butter alot and need to restock on them. it does have subtle taste but since i love my pb – i dont mind it plus it is soooo much cheaper.
🙂 You and me both, Dixya! 🙂
I’m so glad I’m not a big almond butter girl because that shit is expensive. Give me peanuts or give me death. Alright fine that might have been a wee bit dramatic. I will say PB can take over a recipe though. I was experimenting yesterday and I think I’m going back to regular butter. 🙂
The fudge looks fantastic. AB or PB, I’d eat it.
Omg. Jif Natural is made of God’s ocean. Oh if this is the infamous sneaky recipe, I cannot wait.
I don’t know if I should make these or not…most likely I will eat them all in like a day, so…ya. Haha, your recipes are also too dangerous for me. Thanks for another great one!
I can’t have sugar, even maple syrup. Can it be replaced? Do you know the carb count
Hi Melody, you’ll need it for this recipe 🙂
LOVE your recipes! Your pancake tip about using fluffy egg whites saved my keto breakfasts, lol. Can the Lakanto maple syrup be used in this recipe? And have you converted any of these recipes using monk fruit sweetner? It is by far the best IMO.
Thank you so much! I haven’t tried it with this- Let me know how it works! 🙂
