After sharing this 3 ingredient flourless brownie and this 4 ingredient flourless protein brownie recipe last year, the number 1 reason why people HADN’T made either of those brownies yet was due to one thing- Only having frozen bananas on hand.
Having frozen bananas on hand is a beautiful and beneficial thing. They are an amazing thickener in smoothies and If you’re anything like me, you even snack on them thawed….slathered in peanut butter. However, when it comes to using them in baked goods, I thought they would turn them into mush.
Friends, I stand corrected.
The other day, I had 3-4 frozen bananas all chopped up to um….eat semi-frozen with peanut butter for a day time snack. I already had the oven on calculating the oven directions for this microwave red velvet mug cake. On a whim, I thought to try it out with the frozen bananas. Unlike the original recipe, I didn’t want to wait for them to thaw out and wanted to see if it would work IN THIS STATE. This meant that using a hand to mash the bananas was out of the picture. I whipped out the blender, added the frozen banana pieces, smooth almond butter and some cocoa powder and blitzed it.
Friends, I was left with a cocoa colored swamp.
I taste tested it and it tasted SO good- Like that fake ice cream which isn’t ice cream but is kind of like ice cream but isn’t really ice cream because it has no cream.
Oh yeah.
Banana ‘ice cream.’
Anyway, while it tasted good in such a thick state, it needed to be baked. I poured the mixture in a loaf pan and baked it for around 15-20 minutes on low, watching consistently to make sure something odd wouldn’t happen (I’m not sure why I thought this. I thought maybe the frozen banana would freeze the oven. I’m smart like that). I took it out of the oven and was pleasantly surprised. They looked like delicious, rich and dense brownies but the key was the taste test. Would the taste be altered at all?
You guys, I swear they tasted better than using non-frozen bananas. They were somewhat sweeter and their texture was on point- Tender on the outside and melt in your mouth on the inside. Dare I say they have officially trumped their non-frozen counterpart? You bet. You need to make these healthy 3 ingredient flourless blender brownies…now.
These healthy three ingredient flourless blender brownies have no butter, oil, flour or sugar but you’d never tell- They are THAT good. They have a rich, melt in your mouth texture and are the perfect naturally sweetened treat to enjoy anytime, or as I did- For breakfast! (PS- You would have seen these on Snapchat- Add-> thebigmansworld). They literally are the easiest (and healthiest!) brownies ever- Simply add all THREE ingredients in a blender and blitz and pour and bake. Because they have no eggs or any flour whatsoever, they are suitable for those following a vegan, gluten free, paleo and dairy free lifestyle.
HACK! I’m sorry that I sound like a broken record (again) but these brownies delivered on the ultimate taste test- Enjoyed straight out of the fridge or lightly thawed from the freezer. As hard as it is to do, PLEASE make a double batch. One batch to eat straight from the oven and a second to chill in the fridge and….Oh em gee.
Seriously.
Make these healthy 3 ingredient flourless blender brownies and now you actually can’t use the ‘but I only have frozen bananas’ excuse. They’ll now be even better.
Truth.

What’s something you have in the freezer right now?
Favorite way to use a frozen banana? Well, it’s today’s recipe now.
The first time I froze bananas I didn’t realize you have to peel them. That was interesting trying to get those frozen peels off. Doh.
LOL. Dude, I did that too. Not my finest moment….
Wait…bananas in the freezer? Where do you keep your ice? In the oven?? Just kidding…these brownies look delicious, mate!
YES. In Australia, we keep ice in pots and refill it when the sun comes out.
These sound too good to be true… and they look so very fudgy!! Yum 🙂
Hahaha I promise they are good!
I am in awe at how good these look, with such simple ingredients!!
Thanks buddy! I was just stalking your site. 🙂
Perfect! I have a freezer full of bananas waiting to be used up!
😀 YES! Thanks so much, Jessie!
Could I be able use PB2 (peanut butter powder) instead of the nut butter??
Hi Val! I’ve never tried it with that but let me know how it turns out! 🙂
Could I use chocolate protein powder instead (or half and half) of the cocoa powder? Can’t wait to try these, either way!
Hi Colleen! 🙂 I’d recommend you try my 4 ingredient flourless protein brownie recipe 🙂
Is there any banana substitute?
Hi Heather! For sure- Use pumpkin or sweet potato!
These are in the oven right now! So excited, however, I tasted the batter and I could only taste banana! Hopefully these turn out more chocolatey since i used the full quarter cup for extra fudgey brownies. l:
Hi Aya! They do have a richer cocoa taste once refrigerated and cooled 🙂
I just made this and I absolutley love them, and so does the kids and grandpsrents. Thank you so much for sharing your recipe.
Hugs from Norway!
😀 Thanks so much for the feedback, Ana! Glad you all enjoyed them and I’m so envious- Norway is on my bucket list!
