Wash and soak the beans overnight or for at least 10 minutes.
Add the soaked beans, garlic, onion, water, chicken broth, smoked ham, salt, pepper, paprika, and cloves to an Instant Pot. Close the lid, set the vent to the sealing position, and set the Instant Pot to high pressure for 15 minutes. Natural release for 10 minutes.
Season to taste with more salt and pepper and serve warm.

Notes
Soaking time: If you only soak the beans for 10 minutes, increase the cooking time by 10 minutes.
Leftovers: Keep in the fridge for up to 4 days or the freezer for up to 6 months.
Reheating: I like microwaving the beans for 30 seconds or stovetop with a splash of extra broth.
