My avocado smoothie recipe is thick, creamy, and satisfying. It needs just three main ingredients and is easy to customize with other flavors and mix-ins.

My avocado smoothie recipe tastes like dessert

I love avocado toast as much as anyone, but if you’ve never blended one into a smoothie, you’re missing out.
When blended, they become super creamy and smooth, with a rich yet mild flavor that pairs well with bananas, cocoa, or even coffee. I find the extra fiber (7 grams per smoothie!) keeps me fuller for longer. Here’s why I love it:
- Only 3 Ingredients (plus ice). Just avocado, milk, and a secret ingredient (spoiler: it’s condensed milk).
- The perfect creamy texture. It honestly tastes like a healthy milkshake!
- A great way to use up soft avocados. When my avocados get too ripe, I freeze chunks for smoothies.
- Easy to customize. I sometimes keep it green and creamy, or add cocoa powder or coffee for a different flavor.

Key Ingredients
Here’s what you’ll need, along with my kitchen notes. Full measurements are in the recipe card below.
- Milk. I used unsweetened almond milk, but any milk works. Just be mindful of the carbs if you are watching them.
- Condensed milk. My secret ingredient for sweetness AND extra creaminess. To keep it low carb, I used sugar-free condensed milk, but regular condensed milk also works. If you don’t want to use condensed milk, use 2 tablespoons of maple syrup or coconut sugar (again, be mindful of the carbs).
- Crushed ice. For added thickness. Skip if your avocado is frozen.
- Ripe avocado. Look for avocados that are soft but not too soft. If they’re really mushy, they’ll turn the smoothie grey and thin it out (but they’re great in avocado cake!). If you can, use frozen avocado for an even creamier smoothie.
Recipe variations
- Green smoothies. I like to add 1 cup spinach or ½ cup kale.
- Tropical. Use coconut milk and add ½ cup of pineapple or mango.
- Mixed berry. Add ½-1 cup of frozen blueberries, strawberries, and blackberries.
- Chocolate. Add 2-3 tablespoons of cocoa powder. I like using dark cocoa powder for a richer flavor.
- Banana. Add 1 large frozen banana and reduce the condensed milk by half.
- Add protein. Add ½ cup of Greek yogurt or a scoop of your favorite protein powder.
- Superfoods. Try 2 tablespoons of chia, hemp, or ground flax seeds.

Woooo! So glad you enjoyed this one Sean. Now you’ll never look at smoothies the same 😛
Wow what a nice colour. I read once that you get the most nutrients from avocado if you put lemon. True?
Good that I have almond milk at home already. Just need to buy avocados.
