Air Fryer Chocolate Chip Cookies

When it comes to desserts, the quicker I can cook them, the better they are.

As someone who loves a good chocolate chip cookie, waiting for them to bake is what can sometimes put me off. Luckily, thanks to my trusted air fryer, that is no longer an issue.

Can you cook cookies in the air fryer?

You can cook vegetables in the air fryer, pizza rolls in the air fryer, and even popcorn. As for cookies? You sure can! Air fryer chocolate chip cookies are my new favorite dessert.

Why bake cookies in the air fryer?

  • Cookies ready in under 10 minutes. Actually, it’s 7 minutes, and that is only if you want large cookies!
  • No pre-heating required. The worst part about using an oven is having to pre-heat it for at least 15 minutes before baking anything. Using an air fryer skips that process completely!
  • Perfect for small batch desserts. If you own an air fryer, you know the cooking space can be quite limiting. This is perfect though for desserts, as you can only make several at one time. Hello, portion control!

This air fryer cookie recipe re-define what a quick dessert fix is. It simple ingredients and there are no eggs or dairy needed. The texture ticks all the boxes- Thick, chewy, and crisp edges and perfectly soft in the middle. Loaded with chocolate chips, they rival any good cookie out there!

How to make air fryer cookies

The Ingredients.

  • All purpose flour– Also known as plain or white flour. Sift the flour well to ensure there are no clumps throughout.
  • Baking soda– Leavening agent used to give the cookies some rise and helps from overspreading.
  • Salt– Just a pinch to bring out the sweetness of all the sweet ingredients.
  • White and brown sugar– White sugar helps keep the edges crisp and firm, whereby the brown sugar keeps the cookie soft and chewy in the middle.
  • Butter– Either a dairy free butter or standard butter. Regardless of which one you use, choose butter from a block/stick, NOT a tub.
  • Milk– I used unsweetened almond milk, but use whatever milk you have on hand.
  • Vanilla extract– A must for any good cookie or dessert.
  • Chocolate chips– I used vegan chocolate chips, but like the butter and milk, any kind will work.

The Instructions.

Start by whisking together the dry ingredients in a small bowl. In a mixing bowl, cream the white sugar, brown sugar, and butter using a hand or stick mixer. Add the milk and vanilla extract until combined.

Next, gently fold through the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients and mix until combined. Using a rubber spatula, fold through the chocolate chips. Cover the bowl and refrigerate the cookie dough for at least an hour.

Now, line an air fryer basket with parchment paper. Remove the bowl from the refrigerator. Using your hands, roll out golf ball sizes of cookie dough and place 3 or 4 of them into the lined air fryer basket. Air fryer the cookies at 170C/325F for 6-7 minutes, or until the edges firm up. Let the cookies sit in the air fryer basket for 5 minutes, before carefully removing them and transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Tips to make the best recipe

  • Do not overcrowd the air fryer, otherwise your cookies will stick together and will take longer to cook.
  • Let the cookies cool in the air fryer basket for 5 minutes after baking. This allows them to continue to bake and firm up.
  • If you notice the edges of your cookies are still raw-looking, continue air frying them for one-minute spurts until done.

Storing and freezing instructions

  • To store: Leftover cookies can be stored at room temperature, covered, for at least a week.
  • To freeze: Place the air fried cookies in a ziplock bag and store them in the freezer for up to 6 months.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are air fryer cookies good?

Air fryer cookies are just as good as traditional cookies, except they take a fraction of the time. A benefit of using the air fryer to bake cookies is that they cook much more evenly and completely.

What temp should you air fry your cookies?

While air fryers can reach temperatures as high as 200C/400F, for cookies, the temperature should be no higher than 325F/170C. This ensures they don’t overcook the outside, while keeping the inside under-cooked.

Can you use aluminium foil in an air fryer for cookies?

Aluminium foil and parchment paper both can be used in an air fryer. However, for cookies, parchment paper works much better, as the cookies never stick to the bottom.

I don’t have an air fryer. Can I bake these in the oven?

Yes, this recipe can be baked in the oven. Prepare the cookie dough as instructed. After it has chilled, preheat an oven to 180C/350F. Bake the cookies for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are just firm.

Hi this recipe is fabulous. It’s easy and extremely tasty. Crispy on the outside and chewy inside. I’m going to improvise and put sea salt flakes. Thanks for sharing!!!!

  2. I love your recipes but I can’t figure out how many grams of sugar in a serving. Your recipes don’t include it

  3. Hi, I just bought an air fryer and made these. Absolutely delicious but they didn’t cook underneath so had to flip them half way through?
    Thanks!

  4. I found a recipe online somewhere for Keto all-purpose flour. I think I’ll give it a try. I ordered the Oat Fiber Flour and I’m waiting for it to come in. Here’s the recipe if you want it:

    All-Purpose Flour:
    3 cups Fine Almond Flour,
    1 cup Coconut Flour,
    1/2 cup Whey Protein Isolate,
1/2 cup Oat Fiber Flour Not “Oat Flour”!,
    4 TBL Xantham Gum,

Mix all of the ingredients and store in airtight container. Use a 1:1 ration when a recipe calls for All Purpose Flour.
Make large batches so you always have some handy!
