I can’t go past a good homemade sweet snack, and one of my favorite things to do is to recreate my favorite store-bought ones. As someone who LOVES Stacey’s pita chips, it was a no-brainer to recreate them at home…but a little healthier.

The best part about this one is that it will also use up any leftover pita sitting in your cupboard!

Why you’ll love this recipe

  • It’s quick and easy. Homemade cinnamon pita chips come together with minimal effort, using simple pantry ingredients. The best part is they take less than 15 minutes to make!
  • Healthier than store-bought. The beauty of making these in your own kitchen is that you ensure they are lower in fat and sugar than the packaged ones (like my protein chips or low calorie chips).
  • Perfect to snack on. These chips are great between meals or served at parties and events with a fun sweet dip.

Ingredients needed

  • Pita rounds. I like to use whole wheat pitas as they are higher in fiber and protein than white ones.
  • Coconut oil. Helps the cinnamon sugar mixture stick to the bread. You can use melted butter too if you don’t need this recipe to be vegan.
  • Cinnamon. Ground cinnamon to provide that signature warming, sweet spice flavor the pita chips.
  • Sugar. Granulated white or brown sugar.

How to make cinnamon pita chips

Step 1 – Cut the pita. Preheat the oven to 400F degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set it aside. Cut the pita into equal-sized triangles using a knife or kitchen scissors.

Step 2 – Brush and coat the pita. In a small bowl, mix the cinnamon with the sugar. Brush the pita wedges with melted coconut oil on both sides and sprinkle with the cinnamon mixture.

Step 3 – Bake. Place pita pieces on the baking tray in a single layer. Try to not overcrowd the pan so that all the pieces get nice and crispy. Bake the chips for 7 to 12 minutes depending on how crispy you want them to be. Keep an eye on them as they bake to prevent them from burning.

Once ready, remove the pita chips from the oven, allow them to cool completely, and serve.

Recipe tips and variations

  • Use the air fryer. If you’re strapped for time, the air fryer works perfectly well for making crispy pita chips in 4 to 5 minutes.
  • Make tortilla chips. If you don’t have pita bread, you can use tortillas instead. Depending on the thickness of the tortilla, they may need slightly less cooking time.
  • Serve with a sweet dip. What tastes good on pita chips? As these particular chips are on the sweeter side, you may want to serve them with a hazelnut spread, a fruit salsa or even some yogurt. You can try some of my favorite dessert dips too, like Oreo dip or cake batter dip.

Storage instructions

Transfer the pita chips to an airtight container only when they have completely cooled. You can store them at room temperature for around a week. Do not store these in the fridge, as they will become dense and soggy.

  1. 5 stars
Such an interesting recipe. It is like salty and crispy and also sweet because of cinnamon. I like the most this flavour.

  2. I ate smoothies all day yesterday while testing a recipe that i might not even post. I seriously need to start sharing more savoury dishes on the blog so I can actually eat like a regular human being.

  3. What a great idea to take those packets of butter from restaurants…it’s SO spreadable! And just say the cocktail— we underage readers will need to know what’s good when we get there. 😉

  4. Hahahaha, I’m debating as to whether or not I should treat myself to an Indian brunch buffet this Saturday to celebrate before I leave on a three-day retreat next week with no home-cooked food! The struggle is real! Your WIAW posts are always really cool and funny! The English muffins look absolutely amazing! So do the cinnamon pita chips! <3

  5. Dude! You know I am so making these cause I can make GF and I LOVE cinnamon. and well i love anything to go with hummus (sweet hummus)

  6. I love all your super simple recipes. I love snacking on cinnamon pita chips and now I can make my own!

  7. I’ve been snacking on peppermint bark (leftover from Christmas) like its a healthy snack. We have a canister of it and everytime I walk by my hand goes in. I wondered why I had so much energy lately!
I like to make snacks whenever I have time. My favorites include roasted nuts and veggies. I am partial to animal crackers which I would never try to replicate. I love pita chips though and have tortillas lying around so this might be a new easy snack. Thanks for the recipe!

  8. Those pita chips look great! I have used just stnadard tortilla for homemade “tortilla chips” – but these look good! I get a major sweet tooth in the evening, and these look easy enough to whip up 🙂

  9. Flat Out has gluten-free now?! YASSSSSS! Praise the Lord. My mom literally just bought some Flat Out wraps for my little brother and I moped and whined the entire time he wolfed it down. I miss them! But now they have gluten-free options? Sign me uppppppp!
And I won’t even lie, I’d probably just lick all of the cinnamon sugar off of these before dipping them into guacamole….

  10. Ooh, I’m usually a savory pita chip lover, but I’m loving the cinnamon!
Lately I’ve been snacking on hummus and guac…my favorites.
Homemade snacks are great, but working FT and taking care of a 15 month old means I usually turn to store bought for convenience. I might have to try these, though!

  11. Did I hear cinnamon and pita chip? Sign me up! This is a great snack for sure, and it most definitely is not brownies, balls or bars. Although I think a Healthy No Bake Eggplant Bar recipe needs to make an appearance here soon, yes?

    1. Oh dude. Maybe if we call it that and then actually make a smokey baba ganoosh which is what I ate last night…SO GOOD!

  12. I used love those cinnamon sugar stacey pita chips and ate them by the handful until I ate too many and got sick of them, but that was like 5 years ago. I think i’m ready to hop back on that pita chip train again, with making my own like this of course!

  13. I am still loving your grain free English muffins, I remain fascinated at how the taste exactly like a regular one!

  14. Mmm your steak dinner looks perfect…

Love the pita chips! I have like 5 packs of flatout in my freezer so maybe I’ll take one out this weekend and make myself a snack. I have been a total failure in the snack department lately, so I’ve been relying on co-workers to feed me from their snack drawers when I get hungry mid-afternoon.

  15. Its just like a chef having worked all day cooking at a restaurant – I’m sure the last thing he/she would want to do upon coming home is have to make yet another meal. As long as you continue to like your own creations I’d say this makes perfect sense (now I’m curious – DO you ever get sick of your own creations!?). I love flat out wraps – I couldn’t believe how sturdy they were the first time I tried them. And bigger than a regular wrap = alllll the stufffinnnggg.

    1. Haha, now that I’m posting more consistently, I don’t really have a chance to get bored but I have standbys- Brownies and 3 ingredient rice crispy treats are always on rotation here!

  16. I hear you on the variety part. There have been weeks when I eat takeouts or eggs for every dinner and then there are weeks when I cook something fancy every night. I tend to crave the home cooked version, too. But then there is the lazy me protesting very loud!

If I had Whole Foods anywhere near me I’d need to divorce my husband and marry a millionair though 😉

    1. oh man. We need to go to Whole Foods together. I’ll also ‘accidentally’ forget my wallet that particular day.

  17. Being pregnant it’s so easy to eat the same things every day, that typically don’t include veggies! It takes some real effort some days lol. Homemade tortilla chips are my favorite. Way better than store bought!

  18. Chips are a fun way to switch it up! I especially like how easy these are! I prefer homemade snacks… but they just aren’t always there!

  19. My latest favorite snack is good piece chocolate 😉 Or some pieces, whatever. Great recipe, though. But I don`t completely understand the way eating it. What about quick recipe if salsa 😉

  20. There are so many good restaurants in L.A. I would be eating out a lot if I were there and I love to cook!

  21. Homemade snacks for me! This is a great idea – I used to be obsessed with pita chips and want to try out those gf wraps 🙂

  22. These chips sound delicious! I’ve been really stuck on Greek yogurt with cocoa powder and sometimes coconut flour as a snack lately, though dry-roasted edamame and apples are high on the list too. I always tend to get on food jags in the winter.
