My keto green smoothie recipe takes just seconds to make and yields a thick, creamy, satisfying smoothie. I love that there are only 2 grams of net carbs!

When I want a smoothie that’ll keep me full and energized all morning long, I love to whip up this low-carb green smoothie. Aside from the color, you can’t even tell it’s chock full of your daily veggies.
Green smoothies aren’t anything new, but most recipes call for a banana for sweetness. Obviously, they aren’t keto-friendly, so I had to test out a few different ingredients to create one that was thick and creamy. I initially tested fresh coconut flesh, but the coconut flavor was a little too overpowering. Instead, I used frozen avocado, which not only adds healthy, satisfying fats, but also doesn’t leave it tasting like it. Winning!

Why I love this green smoothie recipe

- 4 ingredients. All you need is coconut milk, some greens, a sugar-free sweetener, and ice.
- Easy to customize. I like this smoothie as is, but you can customize it with all sorts of extras or omit anything you don’t enjoy.
- No earthy flavor. The biggest turnoff for me is a green smoothie that lets you really taste the greens. That’s why I made sure this keto smoothie recipe has NO earthy or ‘green’ aftertaste.
- A healthy breakfast or snack. Every sip is full of healthy fats, antioxidants, and fiber. It’s also gluten-free, dairy-free, and vegan.
★★★★★ REVIEW
“Best green shake I’ve ever had! I used swerve and vanilla bean syrup (for coffee) in place of the homemade syrup and added chia seeds. This is the best shake I’ve ever had.” – Kimber
Key Ingredients
Here’s what goes into this keto spinach smoothie, along with kitchen notes. The complete list with measurements is in the recipe card below.
- Coconut milk. Unsweetened coconut milk, either from a carton or from a can. If you don’t mind dairy, whole milk works.
- Spinach. I prefer baby spinach, but English spinach can be used as well.
- Avocado. Adds extra thickness and healthy fats to the smoothie without any extra carbs. I promise you won’t be able to taste it.
- Sugar-free maple syrup. A fantastic keto way to add sweetness. I used homemade keto maple syrup.
- Ice. Gives the smoothie a thick, creamy texture.
How to make keto green smoothies
Step 1- Blend. In a high-speed blender, add all ingredients except for ice. Blend until combined. Add the ice and blend once more until thick and creamy.
Step 2- Serve. Pour the smoothie into glasses and enjoy.

Arman’s recipe tips
- Adjust the flavor and consistency. Taste the smoothie as it’s blending, and add more sweetener, liquid, or ice as needed.
- Use cold ingredients. So the smoothie is ready to drink as soon as you make it.
- Make a creamier smoothie. Swap some of the coconut milk with heavy cream.
- Or make a keto acai bowl. Reduce the milk until just combined, then blend. For a more filling meal, serve it in a shallow bowl with some keto granola.
Flavor variations
There’s a lot of flavor in this smoothie, but that doesn’t mean we can’t add more. Here are a few ideas on how I like to change things up, while keeping the carbs to a minimum:
- Switch up the vegetables. Instead of spinach, try kale, romaine, Swiss chard, celery, or cucumber.
- Add berries. Some of my favorite low-carb berries are strawberries, blackberries, and raspberries.
- Enhance the flavor. Mix in 1 tablespoon of unsweetened cocoa powder, matcha powder, lemon juice, or vanilla extract for a totally different flavor profile.
- Add herbs. Like fresh parsley or fresh mint to brighten up the smoothie.
- Blend up some superfoods. Like chia seeds, hemp seeds, or goji berries.
- Boost the protein. Add a scoop of unsweetened whey protein powder, Greek yogurt, or 2 tablespoons of almond butter.

Great recipe, it’s on my regular breakfast rotation now. I love getting the greens in for breakfast. I also used half an avocado, some chia seed, a little heavy cream, a few blueberries and a scoop of vanilla whey powder along with almond milk.
Some great additions! I love breakfast smoothies too 🙂
Spinach and avocado interesting combination!
I wonder if honey could be used as the sweetener? I am not on a strict keto diet, just looking for lower carbs generally
Absolutely! As long as you are okay with it not being keto. Start with 1 tablespoon, then add more as needed. Honey, unlike granulated sweeteners, a little goes a long way 🙂
One large strawberry has one net carb. Use what your macros allow!
Best green shake I’ve ever had! I used swerve and vanilla bean syrup (for coffee) in place of the homemade syrup and added chia seeds. This is the best shake I’ve ever had.
10/10 strongly recommend
Hi! I have not tried this smoothie yet. It does look really tasty, but I was wondering if I could add strawberries? I love a good classic strawberry and spinach smoothie. If I can, could you tell me a recommended amount of strawberries? Thanks! ;D
Thanks! Instead of maple syrup, can I add fruit instead and how much to keep it keto? Tx!
Hi Win- yes, of course. You can add about 1/2 to 1 cup of frozen berries without going to high in carbs 🙂
