Why I love this recipe

  • Easy to customize. I give you the base recipe plus 5 equally amazing flavor combinations so you can sip a different flavor every time you make it.
  • Ready in minutes. Just muddle the mint, add the other ingredients, and serve it up. It’s really that simple.
  • Zero fake sugary aftertaste. All you get is the natural flavor of the rum, lime, and mint.
  • No fancy bar equipment needed. You can make it fancy and use a muddler and cocktail shaker, but it isn’t required!

Ingredients needed

  • Lime juice. Freshly squeezed lime juice.
  • Granulated sweetener of choice. I prefer to use allulose, but monk fruit sweetener should also work.
  • Fresh mint leaves. These will get muddled to give the cocktail a bright and vibrant flavor.
  • Rum. White rum is preferred, but any good quality rum can be used.
  • Soda water, seltzer, OR club soda. To taste and to make the cocktail as strong or as smooth as you wish.
  • Ice. What is a keto cocktail without ice?

How to make a keto mojito

I’ve included step-by-step photos below to make this recipe easy to follow at home. For the full printable recipe instructions and ingredient quantities, scroll to the recipe card at the bottom of this post.

Step 1- Muddle the mint. In two highball glasses, add the lime juice, sweetener, and mint. Using a wooden spoon, press down on the mint to break it apart and release the mint flavor.

Step 2- Finish the cocktail. Pour in the rum and seltzer, stir to combine, top with ice, and serve.

Serving suggestions

Mojitos have a sharp and robust flavor and tend to pair well with seafood-based dishes. Salmon, tuna tartare, ceviche, or even fish tacos are all fantastic options. They also go great with Mexican dishes like keto nachos, keto salsa with chips, or even a keto charcuterie board

Arman’s recipe tips

  • Adjust the sweetness. These mojitos aren’t overly sweet, hence the minimal amount of sweetener. If you prefer a sweeter mojito, double or triple the sweetener.
  • Don’t skip the muddling, as it’s essential to breaking down the mint flavor.
  • Choose the right rum. Many rums contain hidden sugars, so make sure the one you’re buying has no added sugar.
  • Use other alcohol. If you’re really not a fan of rum, you can use vodka, gin, whiskey, or even tequila instead.
  • Add a garnish. While optional, I like garnishing my mojitos with a lime wedge and fresh mint sprig.
  • Make a mocktail. Skip the alcohol and add ½ teaspoon of rum extract for a similar flavor.

Flavor variations

While the classic mojito tastes incredible on its own, here are some other versions for some variety!

  • Strawberry. Replace the granulated sweetener with 1 teaspoon of keto simple syrup. Add 1/2 cup of sliced strawberries to be muddled with the mint.
  • Watermelon. Add 1 teaspoon watermelon extract and replace the seltzer with sugar-free ginger ale.
  • Blueberry. Muddle 1/4 cup of fresh or frozen blueberries with the mint.
  • Coconut. Replace the rum with a coconut-based rum with NO added sugar. Alternatively, add 1/2 teaspoon coconut extract.
  • Blackberry. Muddle 1/4 cup of fresh or frozen blackberries with the mint.
