Keto Mojito

This keto mojito recipe uses simple ingredients to create the most refreshing cocktail ever! With no sugar or sugary syrup needed, I can’t get over how customizable it is. 1 gram net carbs.

Something about sipping on a mojito cocktail just makes me feel like I’m on vacation, so I figured, why wait until vacation when I can make them in the comfort of my home?
While the traditional drink is loaded with sugar, I’ve given it an easy low-carb makeover.
Having been a bartender during my college years, making the cocktail is the easy part, but what makes the difference is using the right sweetener. I tested allulose, monk fruit, and stevia, and allulose dissolved into the lime juice the best and had the best flavor. Monk fruit was okay, and stevia left a metallic aftertaste.

Why I love this recipe
- Easy to customize. I give you the base recipe plus 5 equally amazing flavor combinations so you can sip a different flavor every time you make it.
- Ready in minutes. Just muddle the mint, add the other ingredients, and serve. It’s really that simple.
- Zero fake sugary aftertaste. All you get is the natural flavor of the rum, lime, and mint.
- No fancy bar equipment needed. You can make it fancy with a muddler and a cocktail shaker, but it isn’t required!
Ingredients needed
- Lime juice. Freshly squeezed lime juice is my preference, but bottled lime juice works in a pinch. Just give it a taste first, as some bottled juices can be quite bitter.
- Granulated sweetener of choice. I prefer allulose, as it dissolves like sugar, but monk fruit sweetener works as well. Granulated sweeteners that don’t dissolve will leave the drink gritty.
- Fresh mint leaves. These will get muddled to give the cocktail a bright and vibrant flavor.
- Rum. White rum is preferred, but any good quality rum can be used. I’ve made this with Captain Morgan and Cruzan.
- Soda water, seltzer, OR club soda. To taste and to make the cocktail as strong or as smooth as you wish. I start with 1/4 cup and add more as needed.
- Ice. I like several large ice cubes so that it doesn’t dilute the cocktail.
How to make a keto mojito
The full printable recipe with measurements is in the recipe card at the bottom of this post.
Step 1- Muddle the mint. In two highball glasses, add the lime juice, sweetener, and mint. Using a wooden spoon, press down on the mint to break it apart and release the mint flavor.
Step 2- Finish the cocktail. Pour in the rum and seltzer, stir to combine, top with ice, and serve.

Serving suggestions
Mojitos have a sharp, robust flavor and tend to pair well with seafood dishes, because the acidity of the lime and freshness of the mint cut through rich flavors. Try salmon, tuna tartare, ceviche, or even fish tacos. They also pair well with Mexican dishes like keto nachos, keto salsa with chips, or a keto charcuterie board.
Arman’s recipe tips
- Adjust the sweetness. These mojitos aren’t overly sweet, and I keep the sweetness minimal on purpose. If you like it sweeter, just add a teaspoon more at a time.
- Don’t skip the muddling; it’s essential for breaking down the mint flavor. Press firmly, but don’t shred it. Overmixing can make the drink bitter by breaking down the stems.
- Choose the right rum. Many rums contain hidden sugars, so make sure the one you’re buying has no added sugar.
- Use other alcohol. Vodka works particularly well as a neutral substitute, and gin adds a botanical flavor.
- Add a garnish. I always add a lime wedge and a fresh sprig of mint. It takes ten seconds and looks so fancy.
Flavor variations
Here are some other versions for some variety!
- Strawberry. Replace the granulated sweetener with 1 teaspoon of keto simple syrup. Add 1/2 cup of sliced strawberries to be muddled with the mint. This is my favorite for parties and events.
- Watermelon. Add 1 teaspoon of watermelon extract and replace the seltzer with sugar-free ginger ale. I’ve also really liked it with some watermelon soda.
- Blueberry. Muddle 1/4 cup of fresh or frozen blueberries with the mint.
- Coconut. Replace the rum with a coconut-based rum with NO added sugar. Alternatively, add 1/2 teaspoon coconut extract.
- Blackberry. Muddle 1/4 cup of fresh or frozen blackberries with the mint.

Frequently asked questions
Rum actually has zero carbs because all the sugar is absorbed during distillation.

These were excellent! I used 1/2 the amount of sweetener.
Thanks for the lovely feedback, Laura. Yes, the sweetener is customizable, so use as little or as much as you like 🙂
Do you know of any brands of coconut rum with no added sugar?! I’ve been looking and hadn’t found one yet.
Hi Bonnie- Unfortunately not (and I used to love Malibu). I have experimented with combining rum and coconut extract and letting it sit for 3-4 days. It gives a lovely coconut flavor, but needs some sweetness added.
I’ve died and gone to heaven! But you mentioned a keto espresso martini? Where? How? That’s a must have!!!
