If there is one thing that’s pivotal to my morning going well, it’s coffee.
Most of us can’t function without at least one cup a day, or if you’re like me, several. For those of us on a low-carb diet, I’ve devised the perfect keto-friendly recipe to get your daily fix while staying on track.

Why I love this recipe
- An easy meal replacement. Some mornings, all I have time for is my coffee, and luckily this one can keep me full and energized for hours.
- Ready in two minutes. Just blend it up, and you’re ready to go. It’s that simple.
- Customizable. Add your favorite sugar-free syrups, sweeteners, or even keto coffee creamer!
- So many health benefits! The combination of oil and butter creates appetite-suppressing effects, helping to aid in weight loss, while healthy fats and antioxidants give the coffee a nutrient boost (source).
Ingredients needed
- Black coffee. Of course, coffee is the most important ingredient. I always recommend using a high-quality brand, as some coffee beans contain mold toxins. Instant coffee or espresso can also work if that’s all you have.
- Coconut oil. Adds an extra layer of richness. MCT oil can also be used.
- Unsalted butter. I prefer the natural flavor of grass fed butter.
- Heavy cream. I also tested whole milk, and while you could use either, I strongly preferred the texture and richness of heavy cream or heavy whipping cream.
- Cinnamon. Just a pinch to add some warming flavors.
- Sugar substitute. Only add this if you prefer a sweeter coffee. I don’t always add this, but when I do, I prefer stevia or a brown sugar substitute.
How to make keto coffee
I’ve included step-by-step photos below to make this recipe easy to follow at home. For the full printable recipe instructions and ingredient quantities, scroll to the recipe card at the bottom of this post.
Step 1- Blend. Add all the ingredients into a blender and blend for 30-40 seconds, until smooth and frothy.
Step 2- Serve. Carefully pour the coffee into a coffee mug, then scoop out the foam on top.
Arman’s recipe tips
- Make it dairy-free. Use coconut condensed coconut milk.
- Cut the caffeine. Use decaffeinated coffee.
- Add sugar-free syrup. Try one ounce of vanilla, salted caramel, hazelnut, mocha, or keto simple syrup.
- Or try extracts. Add one teaspoon of vanilla extract, peppermint extract, or almond extract.
- No blender? No problem! I often use a milk frother or immersion blender.
Storage instructions
To store: Coffee is best enjoyed freshly made; however, leftover coffee can be stored in an airtight container for up to two days.
To reheat: Microwave for 30-40 seconds or until warm.
Frequently asked questions
The key difference is what is added to the coffee. In regular coffee, you typically add milk, sugar, and/or cream. In keto coffee, you add coconut oil, butter, and either half and half or heavy cream.
You can drink 1-2 cups of keto coffee every day. Drinking anything caffeinated in excess can lead to interrupted sleep, so monitor your tolerance if concerned.
While whole milk in small amounts is suitable for a keto diet, heavy cream is a much better option. It has fewer carbs and yields a much creamier beverage.

I was very skeptical of this when I saw coconut oil and butter to be honest. It was sooo good. Blending it does make all the difference in the texture of the drink. I did add 6 tsp of monk fruit sugar and a tsp of vanilla extract to make it more tasty for my sweet tooth. (I added this to the two cup recipe 16oz of coffee). It was quite delicious and added no extra carbs or calories to my morning routine. Thanks!!
Really like this Keto Coffee recipe. I added 2 squirts of liquid Vanilla Stevia in order to make it pleasant to drink.
So delicious!
I was suspect of adding butter to my coffee and I am dairy free so I used Ghee instead. So good!
Thank you for sharing your ideas!

BEST keto coffee ever!
I have a stupid question. I stopped drinking coffee because of the caffeine. I do though like a cup of hot chocolate when it cold here in MN so could I use this or any of the coffee toppings in hot chocolate-I believe I got a hot chocolate recipe here on your site.
Thank you for your time!
You can or make my keto hot chocolate!
Definitely the best way to enjoy coffee!! I don’t add the heavy cream because I don’t buy it, but it is rich enough without it. But, for me that 1 cup is a half serving!! 😉 I really have to quit being lazy and make some of your delicious mug recipes to go with it. 🙂 ~Thanks, Arman
