Satisfy your salty cravings with my foolproof air fryer tortilla chips. They’re made with only 3 ingredients and air-fried in under 5 minutes!

I’ve been making these homemade air fryer tortilla chips nonstop lately, because I wanted a healthy, savory snack to dip into my homemade hummus or salsa. What started as a recipe idea for my air fryer cookbook has quickly turned into an almost weekly staple in my house- my partner asks for them anytime there’s a craving for something salty and crunchy.
They turn out light, crisp, and perfectly golden every time, and you only need three basic ingredients. I’ve tested flour, corn, and even low-carb tortillas in the air fryer, and they all crisp up beautifully with just a smidge of oil. Plus, they are so easy to customize with different seasonings.
I love that they take less than five minutes to make, and are always a fun excuse to make a batch of air fryer nachos, which are my partner’s favorite.
What people are saying
★★★★★ – “SO GOOD!!!!! I used my two-level air fryer to make these tortilla chips, and they are so crispy, crunchy, and perfect with your homemade salsa.” – Alicia
Key Ingredients
- Corn tortillas. Make your own, or buy some at the store. I typically use yellow corn tortillas, but flour tortillas are okay (they can be a little too dry), as are low-carb tortillas.
- Oil. I used avocado oil, but olive oil or cooking spray will do.
- Salt. You need some seasoning, and a pinch of salt is always a classic.
Ways I’ve changed up the flavor
Think of these tortilla chips like. blank canvas. I’ve had some fun trying out different flavors, and here are the ones we go back to:
- Chili lime. Add a dash of chili powder and a squeeze of lime juice or dehydrated lime powder.
- Ranch. Add ranch seasoning.
- Cinnamon. Add cinnamon sugar.
- BBQ. Add a mixture of paprika, garlic powder, brown sugar, chili powder, salt, and black pepper.
How to make air fryer tortilla chips
This is an overview with step-by-step photos. Full ingredients & instructions are in the recipe card below.

Step 1- Prep. Using a sharp knife, cut the tortillas into 6 wedges.

Step 2 Season. Brush them with oil and sprinkle with salt.

Step 3- Air fry. Place the tortillas in a single layer in the air fryer basket and air fry for 5 minutes.

Step 4- Serve the chips with your preferred dipping sauces.
Arman’s recipe tips
- Use a pizza cutter. To get even cuts, I find a pizza cutter does an excellent job.
- Even layers only. Any overlapping will prevent the chips from getting extra crispy. This may mean you’ll need to air-fry in batches.
- Place an air fryer rack over them. While I’ve never had this problem, I know some air fryers circulate enough air to make the chips fly around the basket. If you’re worried, add an air fryer trivet or rack on top.

Frequently asked questions
Your chips might become soggy in the air fryer if the tortillas are moist or have some moisture on them. I recommend patting dry the tortillas with paper towels before adding the oil and air frying.
Yes, and I do this very often (no food wastage here!). To make stale chips crispy again, place them in an even layer in the air fryer basket and air fry at 350F for 3-4 minutes.
Ways to serve with air fryer tortilla chips
- With dips like smoked salmon dip, cottage cheese dip, keto salsa, keto guacamole, or cauliflower hummus.
- On an appetizer platter with air fryer mozzarella sticks and air fryer taquitos.
- Slice them into thin strips and add them to Mexican soup or 7-layer salad.
- Alongside chilaquiles rojos, nachos, or tuna tartare.

Made these to make some healthy nachos and by golly, they are delicious. I added some smoked paprika and cayenne pepper because I’m a spice lover.
