My keto chocolate milkshake recipe is thick, creamy, and surprisingly low carb. Made with just 4 ingredients, it’s the perfect quick dessert or sweet treat with only 2 grams of net carbs per serving.

My go-to keto chocolate milkshake

Arman Liew

After perfecting my keto shakes, I wanted a true milkshake- something thick, creamy, and indulgent enough to feel like dessert (or like a McDonald’s thickshake). I knew this version had to deliver that same texture but without sugar.

This keto milkshake has been my go-to dessert whenever the sweet cravings strike. It bends together in under a minute and needs just three simple ingredients (especially if you use my homemade chocolate milk). There’s no dairy or added sugar, but you’d never guess. The texture is thick and creamy with a rich chocolate flavor.

I’ve been making this for years now (even though I’m not keto anymore), and it never tastes low carb and is so satisfying!

Key Ingredients

  • Milk of choice. I used unsweetened coconut milk, but any low-carb milk works.
  • Cocoa powder. Unsweetened cocoa powder.
  • Granulated sweetener of choice. I recently retested this recipe and found that allulose blends much better (my original recipe called for erythritol).
  • Vanilla ice cream. Any keto vanilla ice cream can be used. Popular brands include Halotop and Enlightened. I actually like to use my homemade keto ice cream.
  • Whipped cream (optional). To top the milkshakes with!

How do you make a keto milkshake

Start by blending together the milk, cocoa powder, and sweetener until combined. Add the ice cream and blend once more. Transfer into a tall glass and top with whipped cream. Serve immediately.

Arman’s recipe tips

  • For an ultra-rich milkshake, use homemade keto chocolate milk in place of the milk and cocoa powder. It deepens the chocolate flavor and makes the shake taste closer to a classic thick shake.
  • For an extra-thick texture, add 1/2 cup of ice cubes and blend until smooth. Keep in mind this may impact the chocolate flavor, so add an extra teaspoon of cocoa powder (if needed).
  • Adjust the sweetness to taste. Start with the listed amount of sweetener, then blend and taste before adding more. If using a sweeter keto ice cream, you may not need any additional sweetener.
