When I’m on a sugar free diet, the only thing that can keep me motivated is knowing I can still enjoy a healthy dessert every now and then.

What makes a good sugar free dessert?

The concept of sugar free desserts can seem counterintuitive, but if you know what to look for, it’s quite simple. Here are some tips for coming up with the perfect sugar free dessert:

  • Know your sweeteners. Not all natural or artificial sweeteners work the same, so it’s important to know what a good substitute is for your favorite desserts. For example, I prefer allulose or a brown sugar substitute (or powdered sugar substitute) l as a white sugar substitute, while liquid monk fruit is my favorite liquid sweetener.
  • Enhance flavors. Believe it or not, adding certain spices or extracts, like cinnamon, nutmeg, or vanilla extract, to desserts can help give the allusion of sweetness.
  • Take advantage of natural sweeteners. Fruit-sweetened desserts have the benefit of being naturally sweetened with no “fake sugar” aftertaste, so next time you’re craving chocolate brownies, try sweetening them with applesauce.

Sugar free chocolate desserts

I could never follow a diet that didn’t allow for chocolate. Luckily, these recipes allow me to satisfy my chocolate craving while being completely guilt-free.

  • Fudge– Made with 3 ingredients, including my homemade sugar-free chocolate chips, this fudge recipe is the definition of decadent.
  • Kit kat bars– Crunchy granola enrobed in rich sugar free chocolate. I dare say they taste better than the classic candy bar!
  • Keto chocolate cheesecake– Basically a thicker version of my chocolate mousse, with tangy cream cheese folded in and topped with rich chocolate ganache.
  • Chocolate mug cake– For how fluffy, moist, and rich this mug cake is, you’d never guess it’s sugar free AND low calorie, at just 100 calories per cake.
  • Chocolate pecan pie bars– One of my favorite holiday treats for sharing, featuring layers of shortbread, pecans, caramel, and melted chocolate, all delicately sweetened with maple syrup.

Sugar free no-bake desserts

We’re big fans of no-bake recipes in my house, and if I can enjoy a no-bake dessert that’s sugar free, that’s even better. Plus, each of these recipes pulls double-duty as gluten-free, too.

  • Peanut butter mousse– A favorite childhood dessert my mom always used to make, now seamlessly transformed into a sugar free treat.
  • No bake keto cheesecake– Rich, creamy, and deceptively easy to make. It works equally well with or without a crust.
  • Pumpkin cheesecake– If you’re a year-round pumpkin fiend like me, you’ll want to make this cheesecake.
  • No-bake caramel cookie dough bars– Cookie dough shortbread base covered in a layer of salted caramel and thick chocolate. You guys, it doesn’t get better than this.

Sugar free fruity desserts

Each of these low carb desserts are made with wholesome ingredients, and most are naturally sweetened with fresh fruit.

  • Lemon bars– My go-to dessert whenever lemons are in season. It features a buttery almond flour crust and creamy lemon curd filling, all topped with sugar free powdered sugar. Vegan and dairy-free option included.
  • Banana pudding– Light and creamy pudding made with NO banana – just banana extract!
  • Apricot delight– Swap the sugar for dates or stevia, and you’ll have a vibrant, fruity dessert made with dried apricots and refreshing coconut.
  • Banana mug cake– Naturally sweetened with bananas, this banana mug cake is a healthy, delicious treat you can have ready in just a few minutes.

Ice cream and frozen treats

When I have a craving for ice cream, nothing else will satisfy. Each recipe is free of refined sugar and won’t spike your blood sugar levels, yet they don’t compromise on flavor.

  • Pudding– After one bite, you’ll never buy the store-bought sugar free puddings again.
  • Ice cream– Easy to make with or without an ice cream maker and endlessly customizable.
  • Ice cream bars– One of my favorite treats to share. These soft, fudgy brownies filled with keto ice cream are seriously addictive.
  • Frozen yogurt– Smooth, slightly tart, and surprisingly low-carb. Made with multiple flavor options, with or without an ice cream maker.

I love sharing cookies with my friends and family, especially when everyone can enjoy them, whether or not they’re on a sugar free diet.

  • Peanut butter cookies– Made with 3 ingredients in 10 minutes or less. Your friends will never be able to guess they’re sugar free.
  • Sugar free Vegan chocolate chip cookies– When I need a foolproof cookie recipe that caters to a variety of diets, I make these chocolate chip cookies.
  • Anzac biscuits– A beloved Australian and New Zealand biscuit recipe, made with my secret sugar free sweetener: Golden syrup!
  • Almond cookies– Made with almond flour and almond extract, these cookies are delicately sweetened and taste just like Amaretti cookies.

Arman,, Thank you for your web site. I can only eat organic, Non GMO. I appreciate the recipes you have on your site because the ingredients in most recipes are what I can eat. And I love the off brand recipes that look like and taste similar to what people crave when they start a keto plan. Thanks Again
