These 23+ healthy savory snacks prove you can make healthy choices without sacrificing flavor. From zucchini fries to bagel bites and cheesy chips, you’ll love every recipe, guaranteed!

healthy salty snacks

This may be a surprise to some, but while I enjoy sweet snacks, I actually prefer salty and savory foods. When I’m short on time or need a midday pick-me-up, you can usually find me with my hand in a bag of potato chips…

Of course, potato chips aren’t exactly the pinnacle of healthy food. Luckily, it’s easy to “healthy-fy” our favorite savory snack recipes to incorporate them as a healthy part of our diet.

Benefits of making savory snacks from scratch

Heaving healthy snack recipes in your cooking arsenal is super important, especially if you’re trying to change your lifestyle. This is why almost every recipe I’m including here is easy to make and adapt to a variety of diets.

  • It’s healthier. Making homemade snacks gives you more control over what goes into them. You can also add ingredients to make them healthier, like opting for healthy fats or adding protein and or fiber.
  • It’s cheaper. Is it just me, or are store-bought snacks getting more expensive every day?! Ever since I started making snacks at home, my wallet has thanked me!
  • It’ll help you lose weight. When I’m trying to lose weight, the first thing I do is start meal prepping and making more healthy snacks at home.

Healthy dips

We burn through dips in my house, so I’m always looking for new healthy dips and sauces to keep things interesting. These five have been wildly popular AND deceptively healthy.

  • Eggplant dip– AKA baba ganoush, it’s made with tahini, olive oil, garlic, and eggplant, making for a dip that’s high in protein, fiber, and healthy fats (and it tastes incredible!).
  • Keto salsa– Made with no added sugar and 2 grams of net carbs, it tastes even better than what you’d get at a Mexican restaurant.
  • Keto hummus– Skip the chickpeas and make hummus with cauliflower instead. Only 2 grams of net carbs but all the flavor.
  • Keto ranch dressing– Pair this with some celery sticks, and you have a low-carb, satisfying dip that’s perfect for sharing.
  • Smoked salmon dip– I LOVE smoked salmon dip, and when I need a lower-calorie version, I just swap the cream cheese for Greek yogurt! Also, try smoked tuna dip for something similar.

Healthy chips & crackers

Nothing quite satisfies my salty craving like chips and crackers. Each of these recipes is addictive, yet they’re easy to make and shelf-stable.

  • Peanut butter crackers– Made with only 6 ingredients and studded with toasted sesame seeds, these crackers put Ritz peanut butter crackers to shame.
  • Veggie chips– Made with your favorite root veggies and minimal oil, these chips are addictive. They’re also vegan, gluten-free, and super low in calories.
  • Keto tortilla chips– A quick and easy low-carb swap for tortilla chips that are baked and not fried.
  • Low-calorie chips– Less than 100 calories per serving and endlessly customizable.
  • Protein chips– Protein is all the rage now–as it should be! These chips are diet-friendly and make the perfect post-workout salty treat.

Snacks to enjoy by the handful

Whenever I’m hosting or just need something easy to munch on, I make sure to always keep these bulk snacks in stock.

  • Warm nuts– Well-seasoned and topped with sea salt, this is my go-to recipe whenever I’m hosting. I also love that you can make them on the stovetop, in the oven, or in your slow cooker.
  • Roasted chickpeas– Made with ZERO oil and 7 different flavor combinations. I usually make a double batch and use some to top my Mediterranean bowl… but they don’t always last that long.
  • Protein trail mix– Everyone loves a good trail mix, and this one gets brownie points for being high-protein. I like mine with beef jerky, pepperoni sticks, and peanut butter pretzels, but you can customize them however you want.
  • Zucchini fries– Zucchini is high in fiber and low in calories, and with NO oil needed, you can have crispy, salty, addictive veggie chips in no time.
  • Parmesan crisps– Made with 1 ingredient (you guessed it–parmesan!), these chips are low in carbs, ready in minutes, and full of crispy, cheesy flavor.

Savory snacks made in the air fryer

We love our air fryer recipes at home, and naturally, we use it for a lot of our healthy snacks. Not only is it fast, but it uses minimal oil and is WAY healthier than deep frying.

  • Air fryer sweet potato fries– I use 1 tablespoon of oil (seriously!), and yet these sweet potato fries turn out ultra crispy, salty, and sweet.
  • Air fryer bagel bites– I grew up on bagel bites as a kid, but have you ever checked to see what’s in them? No thank you! My homemade version uses 3 ingredients and tastes even BETTER than the store-bought bites.
  • Air-fryer kale chips– If you’ve never air-fried kale before, this is your sign to try it (especially the curry chips, my favorite!). Kale is the perfect base for a healthy snack because it’s low in calories and rich in antioxidants and other essential nutrients.
  • Air fryer popcorn– Ready in 10 minutes and endlessly customizable, we probably make this at least once a week for movie night.
  • Air fryer French fries– Potatoes get a bad wrap for not being nutrient-dense, but I beg to differ. They’re rich in complex carbohydrates, and when there’s only 1 tablespoon of oil involved, you have no reason NOT to eat French fries!
  • Air fryer buffalo cauliflower– If you’re looking for a healthy buffalo wing recipe, you are going to love these buffalo cauliflower bites.
  • Air fryer sweet potato wedges– Paired with my hot honey sauce, I could actually live off these crispy, fluffy, crunchy potato goodness.
  • Air fryer corn on the cob– It’s buttery, juicy, and with a sprinkling of salt. This gets the veggies in too!
